We have T-1 links, we don't need better reliability

Excellent!  T-1 is a mature technology with a known reliability.  We have found, however, several instances where installing a single T-1 poses problems for our customers:

  • T-1 is often too costly for small sites
  • A single T-1 isn't enough bandwidth for larger sites
  • Every internet T-1 SLA we've seen doesn't include scheduled downtime into the equation.  If you have extended hour needs over your T-1, a four or six hour downtime window can be a minor nuisance to an intolerable situation.

Many of our customers will purchase two business class DSL circuits from separate providers for smaller sites that need good bandwidth and reliability.  Cost is often less than 1/2 of a T-1, and reliability is exceptional, since the site will still be accessible as long as at least one link remains up.  Increased reliability holds for both general internet access and VPN connections to other offices.

Larger sites will often use two or more T-1 links from separate providers.  The chance of all providers failing simultaneously is vanishingly small, so reliability is improved accordingly.  Many vendors offer bonded T-1 solutions as higher reliability than their single T-1 solutions.  While true to some extent, bonded T-1 links typically travel 'side by side' and connect to ports on the same router at the Point of Presence (POP).  As a result, most failures affecting a single T-1 will also adversely affect a bonded T-1 solution.

Titanium Mirror products can load-balance WAN and VPN traffic across multiple links, dynamically compensating for link failures (and recoveries).  Links can be made with nearly any IP based networking technology, including DS-3, T-1, DSL, Cable, wireless and frame relay.  Learn more in the products section, or give us a call to discuss your specific needs.
